Sustainable hotel linen: Is it worth it?
Sustainability and cost-effectiveness need not be at odds with one another – quite the contrary. In the industry magazine R+WTextilservice, the SALESIANER Group highlights the opportunities offered by organic and Fairtrade-certified hotel linen and explains why making the switch can pay off for businesses in the long term.
The interview makes it clear that anyone wishing to assess the cost-effectiveness of sustainable hotel linen must consider the textiles’ entire life cycle. High-quality materials made from certified organic cotton are durable, need to be replaced less often and can therefore reduce overall costs over their service life. For textiles made from recycled cotton in particular, the fabric construction and processing are crucial to durability – it is only through this combination that the necessary resilience for intensive use in the laundry process is achieved.
At the same time, sustainably produced textiles are becoming increasingly important from the guests’ perspective. Products manufactured responsibly stand for quality, comfort and credibility – and are increasingly becoming a key differentiator. To make this added value visible, successful businesses rely on clear yet discreet communication, such as labels directly on the textiles or supplementary information in the room. Transparent supply chains and recognised certifications such as GOTS or Fairtrade further strengthen trust and make sustainable decisions transparent for businesses and guests alike.
