The Circular Economy Delegation (KWD) is an alliance of Austrian companies, organizations, and research institutions with the goal of advancing circular economy practices in Austria. The initiative was founded by Reinhard Backhausen, a pioneer of the circular economy and Vice President of the Austrian Economic Association. 

At a meeting with the Secretary General of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKO), Mag. Jochen Danninger, representatives from 15 companies and institutions presented a catalogue of measures for the rapid and practical implementation of circular economy initiatives. SALESIANER was also represented, by Mathias Nell, Head of Sustainability.  

The discussion focused on clear and long-term frameworks for investments in circular business models. While many small and medium-sized enterprises still face uncertainties, pioneering companies require planning security to further develop their innovations. At the same time, guidance and support are needed to help other companies enter the circular economy.There was agreement that circular economy goes far beyond environmental policy. It is a key factor for competitiveness and securing Austria’s economic future. Successful circular business models emerge primarily through collaboration along the entire value chain and across industry boundaries. 

The Circular Economy Delegation sees the transition to a circular economy as offering great opportunities for innovation, resource efficiency, and sustainable growth. Guided by the principles of Innovation, Cooperation, and Communication, the dialogue with the Federal Economic Chamber will continue and be expanded into a broad alliance for circular economy in Austria.
