From old to new: SALESIANER and Saubermacher launch textile recycling pilot
Together with Saubermacher, the SALESIANER Group is launching a twelve-month pilot project for the collection, analysis and recovery of used textiles from the professional laundry sector. The aim of the initiative is to develop new methods for the material recovery of used textiles and to lay foundations for closed or partially closed textile cycles.
The focus is particularly on workwear and professional clothing made from cotton and blended fabrics. The end-of-life textiles generated are collected, assessed according to material quality and recyclability, and channelled into suitable recycling streams. At the same time, the actual recycling potential, potential CO₂ savings and operational feasibility are analysed.
Through this pilot project, SALESIANER and Saubermacher are pooling their respective expertise across the value chain. Whilst SALESIANER contributes its know-how on textiles, usage cycles and logistics, Saubermacher is responsible for sorting, material analysis and the assessment of suitable recycling and recovery routes.
The insights gained are intended to help generate reliable data for future recycling concepts and to highlight potential for scaling up within the commercial textile sector.
