SALESIANER is Austria’s leading textile rental company, generating a turnover of around € 241 million in the 2019/20 financial year with a total of 30 sites in ten countries. 15 laundries ensure nationwide regional coverage in the company’s home market of Austria. Another 15 laundries are located in Germany and in the CEE countries Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia.
The family-owned company was founded in 1916 on Vienna’s Salesianergasse by Magdalena Wittmann. Hans Krautschneider, the son of the founder, picked up on an idea originating in the USA in the 1970s and brought it back to his home country: the rental of textiles and clothing. Thomas Krautschneider is now the third generation of the family leading the successful company today. The SALESIANER Group offers top quality, hygiene and supply security when it comes to laundry services and rental textiles for the healthcare sector, hotels and restaurants as well as workwear for industry and commerce. We also offer cleanroom textiles, washroom hygiene products, dust control and graphic mats.

SALESIANER Timeline
1916
Magdalena Wittmann acquires the “trading licence to operate a laundry and cleaning business” and takes over a laundry on Salesianergasse in Vienna.
1928
First SALESIANER laundry truck: Magdalena and Josef Krautschneider buy the premises belonging to “Erste Wiedener Wasch- und Bügelanstalt”. The company is named “SALESIANER” after the street where it was founded.
1956
Company head office Linzer Straße: The chemical cleaning and dyeing factory in Vienna’s 14th district becomes one of the most modern facilities in Austria. The network of affiliates proceeds to grow to encompass over 70 locations in Vienna.
1970
Hans Krautschneider founds SALESIANER MIETTEX. The son of the founders imports the idea of renting textiles from the USA as a new and promising business segment.
1991
Start of CEE expansion: The first foreign branch is opened in Budapest. This marks the beginning of SALESIANER’s success story in Eastern and South-Eastern Europe.
2008
Integration of MEWA: The hotel and healthcare divisions of MEWA Austria are taken over.
2018
Integration of Wozabal + Umlauft: SALESIANER’s market leadership is given a further boost with the successful takeover of six laundries.
2019
HQ22: The company’s premises in Vienna’s 22nd district is renovated and refurbished, creating the new and modern head office of the SALESIANER Group.
